MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Philam Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of AIA Philam Life, recently turned over several classrooms in the island communities based in Batanes and Guimaras as part of its seven-year-old Philam Paaralan program. Through this program, the Foundation aims to make education more accessible to the Filipino youth by building classrooms in calamity-stricken, unserved, and under-served areas around the country.
The turn overs, in partnership with LBC Foundation, were conducted in Basco, Batanes and Poblacion, Jordan, Guimaras. The two foundations have been collaborating since 2017, and has yielded 28 classrooms built in 13 provinces nationwide. The commitment is to build ten classrooms more in five provinces by the end of the year.
Two classrooms, which will be used by 173 students from grades four and five, were turned over to Valugan Elementary School in Batanes, while three classrooms were built for 1,940 freshman to senior high school students in Jordan National High School in Guimaras.
“Our goal is to build classrooms in all 83 provinces across the Philippines, especially in remote areas where education becomes inaccessible to students who live too far from the center of the town. With classrooms turned over in 68 provinces nationwide, we are happy that we are very close to achieving our goal,” said Philam Foundation President Max Ventura. “Education is one of the most basic means that children can secure their future. By making education more accessible to these children, we at AIA Philam Life are able to bring to life our brand promise of helping Filipinos live Healthier, Longer and Better lives.”
